Today Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The vast majority of Haitians live in extreme poverty and lack access to basic needs such as clean water, food, education, health care and jobs.

To make matters worse: corruption runs rampant throughout the government. It’s not uncommon for people to pay bribes just so they can get an ID card or birth certificate to apply for a job or send their child to school.

Centuries of oppression and colonization has created a society with two classes - those with money and power and everyone else who suffers under the pain of extreme poverty.

The Haitian Timoun Foundation was founded on the principle that we have an obligation to help our fellow human beings when there is no other recourse available through governments or aid organizations.

We believe that it takes tenacious people from around the world working together with local partners on-the-ground to create generational change within communities across Haiti.

 

Eradicating extreme poverty means looking toward the next generation.

The 2021 earthquake drew plight to the children of Haiti as roughly 1,000,000 became orphaned. Long before the earthquake, however, many children were already disadvantaged through the death of their parents or abandonment by parents who didn’t have the means to raise then.

In order to create a better future and break the cycle of poverty, HTF invests in centers that are intentional about empowering children from places of extreme pain. Read more…


The traditional NGO model of flooding Haiti with resources has bot been effective.

HTF knows this model is ineffective because it doesn't empower; aid unaccompanied by local leadership and vision creates dependency.

In order for Haiti to grow and thrive, it must raise up a new generation of leaders. HTF invests in leaders by supporting education at all levels, by giving street children alternative futures, and through affirming the dignity of every human. Read more…

HTF provides sustainable solutions to extreme poverty in Haiti which disproportionately impacts women.

We are committed to eradicating the root causes of poverty by providing education and economic development programs for Haitian women. HTF’s is dedicated to empowering women with the tools they need to break out of poverty and pursue their dreams.

Our aim is not to provide short term relief, but to foster long-term generational class mobility so that future generations of Haitians have the opportunities they deserve. Read more…
